Daughter abducted, killed by illicit father over extramarital affair
31 August 2009
JAMNAGAR: In a grisly incident, the body of a six-year-old girl, who had gone missing, was found floating in an abandoned well in Sikka town of the district on Saturday. Incidentally, the kidnapper was a man, who had allegedly fathered the girl and ended his life, fearing police action soon after the body was discovered.
According to police, the incident was the result of an affair between the victim's mother and a youth. "Before this incident, we had registered the kidnapping case on the complaint of Hira Vanjha, who alleged that her daughter Sheetal was abducted by a middle-aged man and a woman two days ago," said sub-inspector RK Taraiyya of Sikka police station.
The girl was fished out from the well and sent for postmortem examination on Saturday. Later, she was identified as Sheetal. Following this, police rounded up suspects and interrogated them. Hira also figured in the list of suspects as her behaviour was fishy from the start of the investigation.
"When we quizzed her, Hira confessed to having had an extramarital affair with Jayesh Bhambhi, 26. It was through this relationship, that Hira had given birth to Sheetal. This had sown seeds of discord in her married life. Hira's husband used to torture her. In a desperate attempt to end this crisis, Bhambhi kidnapped Sheetal and killed her by drowning in the well," Taraiyya said.
On the basis of Hira's confession, police raided Bhambhi's house and asked him to surrender. Bhambhi told police that he would come from the rear door of his house to avoid public attention. However, he ran towards GCC company and jumped before a speeding truck and died on the spot.
