Flagler Beach, Florida: Elizabeth Stua, 20 and her boyfriend Frank Rodriguez, 36, were arrested Saturday on allegations they abused Stua's 2-year-old son and 6-month-old baby daughter.
According to police, state investigators were called when witnesses reported seeing Stua dragging her 2-year-old son down the street by him arm - causing bruises and scrapes to the toddler's body. Stua was also reported to have thrown a chair at her 6-month-old daughter.
The report came after a witness told police Stua showed up at her house with both children stating she could no longer afford the motel room she had been renting out. The witness stated Stua arrived with nothing more than a box of cereal, while the children exhibited suspicious injuries and bruises across their bodies.
The witness went on to tell police Stua spent the day screaming at the toddler and dragging him about by the arm. She also reported seeing Stua leave the child unattended. Stua reportedly told the witness that "the baby would be fine alone," according to the arrest report.
When investigators took the children into custody, they reportedly found no bruises on the baby's body, but she appeared thin and underweight. The toddler, however, had multiple bruises, scrapes and burns on his body, according to the arrest report.
Stua was charged with child abuse and child neglect. Rodriguez was charged with child neglect for failing to report the abuse or seek medical care for the children.
During their trip to jail, Stua reportedly told Rodriguez that she didn't understand why he was being arrested. Rodriguez reportedly responded "I don't know why either. I did nothing wrong. You're the one who always hits him."
