NEW DELHI: A senior government official serving in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for marrying a Delhi girl allegedly by concealing his age and the fact that he was previously married, police said on Friday.
Captain Pramod Kumar Bajaj, an Indian Revenue Service officer, was arrested from Lucknow on Wednesday. He is presently serving as Additional Director of Regional Training Institute of Direct Taxes at Vibhuti Khand in Lucknow.
The arrest came following a probe into a complaint filed by Rakhi, a resident Ashok Vihar, that he got married to her by misrepresenting his age and marital status, deputy commissioner of police (North-West) N S Bundela said.
"Rakhi was approached by Bajaj through a matrimonial website. To obtain her consent, the accused intentionally misrepresented his date of birth and marital status. He kept on calling her on her mobile and through e-mail also and succeeded in getting her consent for marriage," he said.
Bajaj and Rakhi got married on December 28 last year at a banquet hall in north Delhi's Wazirpur. He was married earlier and got a divorce from his previous wife Renu on March 27 this year.
