Biography of a Wife deceived by a 'Husband' into a Bigamous marriage(s): Chapter 4. Why me? The financial reasons

Biography of a Wife deceived by a 'Husband' into a Bigamous marriage(s): Chapter 4. Why me? The financial reasons

Main Characters:

1. Meera -The Legally Wedded Wife or Narrator in USA (Married by Civil Registered Marriage)

2. Veena - Yet another wife in India (Married by Hindu Religious rites)

3. Krishna-The Bigamous Husband in USA (The Charming Con-Artist)
Date of writing: 2 February 2010

Date of Editing: 2 February 2010
Krishna added my name as joint matter on two things only where he can get financial benefits.

# House on joint name so financing is done jointly. I am equally responsible for the mortgage(loan) of the house.

# If loan payment doesn't happen in timely manner, credit history gets spoiled and it becomes difficult to get any financial matter resolved in US, simple thing like opening bank account needs good credit history.

# He added my name on bank joint account where we decided to put our marital income together. Ideally both will put income honestly and will share expenses honestly as that was marital joint account. We have prenuptial agreement done which protects our premarital assets. Dishonesty is a problem here. Krishna was the first to discontinue his direct payment from the employer. Actual salary was a secret to me. His credit card bills never shared despite of many requests. So his all expenses were secrete to me. Despite of above average income, joint account was going -ve. At one point I decided to stop payment in joint account till he share and clean up past expenses.

#He never put my name where I can get benefits, e.g. medical insurance, retirement funds, 401K (sort of retirement) where normally spouse is beneficiary.

# I pay my life, medical, vehicle insurance and all expenses encountered by me and my kids. He never supported wife or any one of us. I take care of my living expenses, including cloths, food, car, kids, medical, education, travel and all.

# Bottom line, wherever liability exists, my name has been added to share financial burden.

# Climax is he is mentioning in court case that he has gains from premarital while debt is from marital. In this downturn economy, most of us are seeing poor portfolio that went down (except Krishna). Marital income is increasingly added monthly and seeing debt makes no sense to me. It's clear that he has invested marital income and claiming that as premarital gains.

# Never brought any X-mas, birth day gift or even $1 thing for me/wife. Court case is filed to pay debt which he created by his secret expenses.

Question for the author: What kind of research did you do for this? Did to talk to all sources to present all points of view? Did you bother to even talk to the "accused" once?

I cannot believe that this kind of one-sided "take-my-word-for-it kind of reporting passes off as journalism in the Indian blogsphere. No references, no supporting evidence, no back-ups...nothing.

It's as if someone paid the author to write exactly what she wanted written. No questions asked.

You tell your side of the story.
We'll post your view.

In polygamy situations, there are many, many sides of the story. We can only tell those who approach us.

Two views have been clarified. And, for confidentiality and privacy, we can't tell you which.

Bigamy is a serious crime in India and US. A marriage in another country is valid in the US; so, if someone is married in another country, they cannot get married again in the US or vice versa. Person involved always makes all efforts to protect her/him self due to severe punishment in both countries. A person who violates this criminal law section is guilty of the felony of bigamy and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 9 years.

Sadly, such stories are more common than what educated middle/upper class Indians like to believe. We are a society in denial about the values we actually believe in and uphold. Most organizations working in the field of family violence among the SouthAsian community in the US have come across many forms of such cases where a woman in India is deceived into marriage. I worked with such an organization for over a decade. The reason for the deception are many, but the one common thread is that the guy is at the minimum a liar, and often a coward (where, e.g., he cannot tell his parents that he already has a girlfriend in the US, or he is gay) and prefers to ruin the life of an unsuspecting woman and comes across as an ideal, obedient son! We know how we raise and value our girls and how we value "being married" more than living a life of dignity and self-sufficiency. And these men can go to India again and again and find families falling over themselves to give their daughters to a scoundrel, so that their daughter doesn't bring dishonour to the parents by remaining unmarried! Those are our values and most of the society is complicit in this, one way or another. The Anonymous comment asking for a "fair and balanced" view of the story from all sides must be another guy in denial pretending to be from the "great Indian culture"! Every one of the scoundrels we've known is a well-educated professional man with "high value in the marriage market".

Disgusted and disheartened in 2010.

@ the author; guess in a blogspot u need to discuss topics in the light of facts. ur dismissal of Anonymous 1 comments are enough evidence to suggest that you are influenced to write such one-sided stories.

As journalist of a leading publishing house in india, i would really like to meet these victims before i post such views. and its the ethics of journalism to do so.

In your case, i really doubt u would have done any such investigations, as i contantly see common references made to every single article relevant to your topic from the global media.

This, alongwith your behaviour in replying to ANONYMOUS 1 views are convincing us that you are either influenced to write such views to defame someone of a group of persons or u need a sound counselling.

Take care and get well soon
