HYDERABAD: A school teacher was thrashed and handed over to police by locals of Papireddy Nagar near Kukatpally on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a Class III student.
The teacher, Anthony Xavier, 50, who is a native of Gulbarga in neighbouring Karnataka, allegedly molested the girl on Tuesday after school hours, police said.
Xavier, who came to the city two months ago and was staying at his brother's house in Papireddy Nagar, was working in Pragnya Play School and was teaching Class IV students. "His room is located adjacent to the school," Kukatpally sub-inspector Pradeep Babu told TOI.
On Tuesday after school hours at around 4.30 pm, the teacher lured the girl to his room by offering her chocolates and allegedly molested her.
The girl returned home and at around 10 pm, she woke up complaining of pain in her abdomen. When her parents quizzed her, she narrated the incident.
On Wednesday morning, the victim's father along with locals thrashed the teacher and handed him over to police.
Based on the father's complaint, police registered a case under Sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 348 (wrongful confinement to extort confession, or compel restoration of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, the girl's parents and locals held an hour-long protest in front of the school demanding closure of the institution and arrest of the principal.
